The Hovercats are coming!
Please help me welcome students from the University of New Hampshire to our playing fields.
This is the first year that UNH has fielded a Hovercraft Racing Team and they look forward to competing on a national
level in the Hoverclub of America's Collegiate Design and Construct Competition being held next June in Chillicothe, Ohio.
For a senior project the UNH Mechanical Engineering department is building a hovercraft to race against other colleges.
To raise money for our project, a golf tournament was hosted at The Oaks Golf Course in Somersworth, NH. The event was
called the Hover-Cats Classic, and might have the potential to turn into an annual event? All Proceeds went to Benefit the
05/06 UNH Mechanical Engineering Hovercraft Senior Design Project. Many local business helped with the finances to allow the
UNH ME undergraduate seniors to design, build, and race a formula-unlimited hovercraft prototype on a national stage.
To show sponsors and fellow team mates what the ultimate goal might look like, I showed up for a demonstration with one
of my racing hovercrafts. I also gave rides to people on the driving range. This allowed some of the parents and teachers,
most of which had never seen a hovercraft, of what their kids (...or young adults I should call them) are getting into.
